ABOUT M.IC.RO

The MICRO group (Movement for the Inclusion of Racialized Communities of Ontario) was born in June 2020, following the sad series relating to acts of anti-black racism. We have decided to set up a group allowing us to discuss the issues we face individually and collectively.

We started by conducting a series of webinars on various topics related to the discrimination we experience: Mental health: putting an end to taboos, Building resilience: examples close to us, Anti-racism: tools for our interlocutors, the causes endogenous and exogenous dysfunction within our community. The interest aroused by this series encouraged us to renew the experience; Since then, we have been organizing a monthly virtual meeting on the last Saturday of each month, which allows us to determine courses of action, with a view to providing solutions to the problems presented to us by members of the community.
These meetings also allowed us to take solidarity actions, a space being dedicated so that everyone can share initiatives or present a need.

Happy recipient of the call for projects launched by the Ontario Trillium Foundation through its Youth Perspective Fund program, with its project  entitled Cultural Connections, MICRO will be supported in this great adventure by its organization mentorParent Partners
in Education (PPE)
.

Our initiative is aimed at the different communities of the Afro-descendant diaspora who intersect but rarely meet. Although having similar problems, and facing common issues, the communities of the Black Francophone diaspora in Ontario have so far had few safe spaces to reflect together on these issues that require a collective response.
